Mark Vincent @ The Q

The beloved Australian tenor brings his show A Tribute to Mario Lanza to The Q, Queanbeyan, Saturday 10 July 2pm and 7pm.

The show will see Vincent perform songs off his #1 classical crossover album that pays homage to the American/Italian tenor and Hollywood film star of the 1940s and 1950s.

Vincent said it’s fitting that in 2021, as we observe Lanza’s 100th birthday, he’s touring a show celebrating music.

“I have loved and revered Mario Lanza my whole life,” he said.

“From a young age I listened to Mario Lanza sing and his films have always been amongst my favourites.”

Canberra Museum and Gallery (CMAG) will be open 10-11 July from 10am-5 pm for the opening weekend of Ruth Lane-Poole: A Woman of Influence.

Lane-Poole was the Commonwealth’s first ‘interior furnisher’; her articles on interior decoration in popular magazines in the mid-1920s introduced many homemakers to good taste and practical design.

When the Federal Capital Commission was faced with the challenge of furnishing Canberra’s two official residences – Government House and The Lodge – in time for the opening of Parliament House in 1927, Lane-Poole was engaged to work with the architects on matters relating to interior furnishing.

This exhibition brings together personal items never exhibited before which explore the development of Ruth’s design philosophy and the rich legacy of her Irish associations with the family of William Butler Yeats.

Opera Australia’s production of Bizet’s famous opera is on at the Canberra Theatre Centre until 10 July.

Carmen, director Matthew Barclay explained, is one of the most famous femmes fatales in all literature and theatre.

He described Carmen as a gypsy who “wants to break the rules and live outside the boundaries” of normal life.

The opera, Barclay said, is full of pageantry and the numbers are catchy, pouring out with almost inexhaustible fertility.
