A 52-year-old man will appear before the ACT Magistrates Court today, Thursday 2 September, after allegedly capturing nonconsensual images of a woman over the course of several months, through a hidden camera in a bedroom.
Yesterday, Wednesday 1 September, ACT Policing members executed a warrant at a Belconnen residence. In searching the property, officers found the camera in the bedroom, along with a laptop computer.
The laptop held “intimate images” and video recordings captured by the hidden camera.
The Weetangera man has been charged with intimate observations capturing visual data of another person.
ACT Policing have confirmed that enquiries into the hundreds of other recordings located on the computer will continue and are expected to identify other victims.
In the ACT, the maximum penalty for intimate observations or capturing visual data of a nonconsensual nature can be up to two years imprisonment.
Police anticipate laying more charges against the man in the future.
