Wait times easing as COVID testing prioritised again

Wait times for COVID tests in Canberra are steady this morning as ACT Health once again prioritise testing at the Garran facility.

As of 9.13am on Thursday 30 December, the longest wait time is an hour and a half at the Mitchell testing site. Kambah and Garran both have wait times of one hour while Nicholls is the shortest at 35 minutes.

With the temperature predicted to hit 29 degrees in Canberra today, people are encouraged to be sun safe when lining up. Bring plenty of water, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and some snacks as well.

Meanwhile, ACT Health will again prioritise testing for people with the highest risk of exposure to COVID-19 and those with symptoms at our Garran testing centre on Thursday 30 December and Friday 31 December.

The Garran testing centre will only test close and casual contacts, people who have symptoms of COVID-19, people who had a positive rapid antigen test result or returned international travellers.

Children under five and their families can also get tested at Garran for any approved reason, including for pre-travel tests.

People who need a test for other reasons can attend the Kambah, Nicholls and Mitchell testing centres during opening hours.

  • Kambah will be open 8am to 4pm and can test children aged five years and older.
  • Nicholls (Gold Creek School Senior Site) will be open on Thursday and Friday, 8am to 4pm, and can test children of all ages.
  • Mitchell will be open from 8am to 10pm and can test children aged five years and older.
