Upgrades in Tuggeranong

Work was scheduled to start this week on the second stage of public realm improvements to Anketell Street in the Tuggeranong Town Centre.

The works between Pittman Street and Reed Street North follow on from the first stage of works that were completed in mid-2017.

Key priorities of the second stage include: a raised pedestrian zone and low speed traffic environment, off-road cycle lane, improvements to paved areas, tree replacement, better areas for outdoor dining, improved lighting, and more furniture along the street.

CDS depot open in Woden

Southside residents now have another location to trade in their holiday bottles and cans, with the opening of a new Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) depot at 17 Dundas Court, Phillip last month.

Member for Murrumbidgee Bec Cody MLA said the Canberra community was showing their support for the CDS, with over 7.61 million containers returned through the network so far.

The CDS also allows organisations to raise funds for community projects or charity work.

“More and more groups and charities are coming on board and using the scheme to fundraise for a range of activities,” Ms Cody said.

There are now three depots and seven express return points in the ACT, with plans for 18 points to be operational by July.

Extended trading hours at depots during daylight savings are: 8am-6pm weekdays and 8am-4pm weekends.
