The University of Canberra (UC) has joined with the National Capital’s world class cultural and historical institutions to give UC students unprecedented access to events and exhibitions.

UC students enrolled in any subject at the Faculty of Art and Design (FAD) can purchase the year-long UC Cultural Pass for $15, giving them access to Canberra’s landmark institutions.

Worth over $350, the pass was launched in 2020 thanks to partnerships with the National Gallery of Australia (NGA), National Portrait Gallery (NPG), Australian War Memorial, National Library of Australia (NLA), National Museum of Australia (NMA), and the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House (MOAD) and will continue throughout 2021.

Included in the yearly membership, students will have access to exclusive events, exhibitions, and member’s discounts. Access to participating museums, galleries and institutions will also be available.

Director of the Centre for Creative and Cultural Research at UC, Professor Tracy Ireland, says the pass will allow students studying the arts to experience one of Australia’s most culturally developed cities.

“Being in Canberra, we have access to some of the best cultural institutions in the country,” she said.

Professor Ireland said that UC wanted to ensure that students are given the opportunity to experience the institutions while living and studying in Canberra.

“We’re very lucky to be surrounded by these highly significant national collections, and even luckier that they have agreed to open their doors to UC students,” she said.

“Students will also be able to use the facilities available to them at the institutions, including study areas, to enrich their education at the University.”

Some of the many perks of the Cultural Pass include dining in at the NGA’S member lounge, receiving invitations to free events at the NPG, having priority access to Anzac and Remembrance Day events at the AWM, receiving discounts at the NLA Bookshop, visiting the NMA’s lakeside members’ lounge, and taking a dedicated tour of MOAD.

There are a limited number of passes available to FAD students.
