Two new COVID-19 cases recorded in Queanbeyan

Queanbeyan has recorded two new cases of COVID-19 today 2 September, both of them linked to the current outbreak in Canberra with no new exposure sites announced.

They are the first confirmed cases in Queanbeyan since two people tested positive on Thursday 19 August.

The news comes as NSW recorded 1288 new infections across the state along with seven deaths.

The seven deaths include a man in his 50s, two people in their 70s and four people in their 80s.

The death toll for the current NSW outbreak is now 107.

NSW Health’s sewage surveillance program has detected fragments of the virus at treatment plants in Bega and Cooma in southern NSW, Bomaderry on the south coast and in the Illawarra Shoalhaven district.

But there are no known COVID-19 cases in those areas and residents are being urged to monitor for the onset of symptoms, and if they appear get tested and isolate until a negative result is received.

NSW has also unveiled almost $4 billion in extra financial support for locked-down residents.
