During the Queen’s Birthday weekend, ACT Road Policing officers detected two vehicles travelling at more than 45 kilometres above the posted speed limit.

About 8.55pm on Saturday 12 June, a 23 year old man from Casey was stopped for speeding on Horsepark Drive, Gungahlin.

His BMW sedan was detected travelling at 138km/h in the posted 80km/h zone.

He was issued with a Traffic Infringement Notice of $1841 and 12 demerit points (as the offence occurred in a declared double-demerit period).

About 10.50pm on Sunday 13 June, Road Policing officers observed a VW Golf travelling at speed along Morsehead Drive, Russell. Police detected the speed of the vehicle at 133km/h in an 80km/h zone.

Police stopped the vehicle and the 18-year-old driver from Carwoola produced his NSW Provisional Driver licence. The driver had 4 passengers in the vehicle at the time.

The 18-year-old was issued a Traffic Infringement Notice for 53km/h over the speed limit, attracting a fine of $1841 and 12 demerit points.

Due to the incurred demerit points, both drivers will receive licence suspensions notices for a minimum of 3 months.
