Top dogs: the Canberra Paws Calendar contest is back

Canberra’s top dogs are being called to enter in a fundraising pet calendar contest to support local charity, ACT Pet Crisis Support.

Ina J Photography is launching the Canberra Paws 2022 Calendar contest in partnership with ACT Pet Crisis Support to provide much needed funds to the charity for a second year in a row. Ina Jalil, of Ina J Photography, is a pet photographer who specialises in capturing vibrant character-filled portraits of Canberran pets.

In 2020, Ms Jalil raised nearly $11,000 for ACT Pet Crisis Support through her Canberra Paws 2021 pet calendar contest. This year, she aims to raise $15,000.

Launching at 8pm on 1 March and running until 9am April 25, the proceeds from the sale of the calendar and photo contest will assist ACT Pet Crisis Support with helping disadvantaged pet owners keep their pets healthy. The donations will contribute towards medical bills that would otherwise result in euthanasia.

Ms Jalil said that ACT Pet Crisis Support is a organisation that is close to her heart.

“In 2019 I sadly had one of my dogs pass from heart failure, and I experienced first hand how high the medical bills can get.”

“I realised there’d be so many people out there who couldn’t afford these types of costs, and ACT Pet Crisis is an organisation that aims to help pets whose owners aren’t able to afford vet bills in these situations. Last year they were able to use the funds to help several pets in need. I wanted to be able to help them out again.” she said.

In the future, Ms Jalil said she “would like to expand to more charities.”

“If there are charities interested they can contact me directly by email on [email protected]. I also plan to do regular fundraising projects like my Tails of Canberra book projects again.”

The winner of the photo contest will be determined by the number of votes it receives and the dog will be featured on the front cover of the Canberra Paws 2022 Calendar, receive a social media sized image of their chosen calendar photo and an 8 x 10-inch fine art print of the cover photo. The runners up will be featured in each month of the calendar and will receive a social media sized digital file of the chosen calendar photo.

According to Ms Jalil, mini contests will also be held during the duration of the calendar contest. The dog with the highest new votes for the week will be eligible to win prizes donated by local businesses in Canberra, including prizes donated by Pups4Fun, Bark Royal Dog Day Spa and Day Care, Mannekes toys, Charlie and Chums, Dagget Designs, Floppy Duck Art and Louie Loves ‘em.

How to enter

  • Upload a photo of your dog and pay an entry fee of $5. There is a limit of two dogs per photo entry and only dogs should be in the photo.
