A spate of three aggravated vehicle thefts in Belconnen over the past three weeks has prompted ACT Policing to put the call out for witnesses who may be able to assist with investigations.
On three separate occasions, three drivers were allegedly approached by men wearing dark clothing and dark masks, who threatened the car owners and left the scene by stealing their vehicles.
All three vehicles were later found abandoned at different locations.
One man was allegedly assaulted by two men in Florance Place, Macquarie, at about 9.50pm on Wednesday 24 March.
The assailants allegedly also threatened him with a knife, before fleeing in the victim’s vehicle, which was recovered by police at a carpark in Aranda.
Two days later at 11.50pm on Friday 26 March, a pizza delivery driver was met by several men in Bandjalong Crescent, Aranda.
The group allegedly assaulted the delivery driver and drove away in his delivery vehicle, which was later located by police at an underpass in Chifley.
And on Monday 12 April, a man was allegedly threatened at knifepoint by one man at 10.50pm in Banambila Street, Aranda.
Like the two similar alleged crimes that occurred before this one, the offender fled the scene in the member of the public’s vehicle, which was recovered by police in a carpark in Macquarie.
Police believe these incidents are linked and likely to have been conducted by the same group of people.
The people involved are described as male, aged 20 to 30 years, about 180cm tall, Caucasian in appearance. They were wearing dark clothing with dark masks covering their faces.
