The Bunnings sausage sizzle is back in Canberra

Your weekend hardware run just got a whole lot better: Bunnings have announced their community sausage sizzles will return in the ACT from Saturday 3 October.

Bunnings’ chief operating officer Deb Poole said the hardware giant is “really excited” to be bringing back the iconic Bunnings snags, with community groups and customers in both ACT and NSW keen to see them make a return.

“We’re really excited to be bringing them back in a way that will keep everyone safe,” she said.

“We’ve had phenomenal customer feedback in states where we’ve brought the fundraisers back and community groups have done an incredible job prioritising customer safety with the new physically distanced layouts and additional hygiene measures.”

The sausage sizzles were sadly suspended in March due to COVID-19 restrictions. Community groups who had their barbecue fundraisers pre-booked are being prioritised for the restart, with 10 groups booked in the ACT for the re-opening weekend.

Sausage sizzles will restart in NSW stores on Saturday 10 October, with 130 groups booked to run events.

Bunnings have made a few changes to ensure customers’ safety while they get their long-awaited snag fix. There will be separate ordering and pick-up points to allow for 1.5 metres physical distancing; increased cleaning processes and hygiene requirements; increased signage to guide customers; and Bunnings customers in NSW customers can use the Service NSW app to check-in.

“While our community groups are taking a number of extra precautions, what hasn’t changed is the great feeling of supporting a local community group and the unmistakable taste of an Aussie sausage sizzle,” Ms Poole said.

Bunnings announced the return of the sausage sizzles on 9 July for stores in Tasmania and the Northern Territory, and on 22 July for Queensland, South Australia, and Western Australia. The company has announced it will continue to follow the latest health advice with regards to the return of sausage sizzles in Victoria.
