Take 5 with Shaun Diviney from Short Stack

Aussie rock band Short Stack are getting ready to kick off their long-awaited nationwide tour, which hits Canberra Friday 17 June. Lead singer and guitarist Shaun Diviney joined CW for a quick chat.

How does it feel to be hitting the road to tour after cancellations and the pandemic over the last couple of years?

It’s crazy that it is finally happening. We played the Unify show, our first proper show in seven years, and it didn’t feel real until we were there. It’s been two years since we announced the tour and now Andy and I both have more kids.

It’s been a while since you guys won the Channel V Oz Artist of the Year in 2008; how has the band grown since then?

We’re enjoying it a lot more now. Back in the day, it was more stressful. The schedule was more full-on. It’s a lot more relaxed now and we can enjoy it.

Have many fans been with you from the start?

Yeah, that’s the cool part of it. A lot of people found us from the new album, but heaps have been around from the beginning, it’s humbling.

We started out in the pop-punk scene, emo scene, and now we’re here.

What’s your favourite song to perform?

Sway, Sway Baby. It’s easy to play and people seem to really like it.

What’s next for Short Stack?

We’ve started writing again, we might be releasing some new music soon.

Catch Short Stack at The Basement, Friday 17 June 8pm. Get your tickets here
