Southern NSW records 42 COVID-19 cases, 15 in Queanbeyan

The Southern NSW Local Health District (SNSWLHD) has recorded 42 COVID-19 cases, with 15 in the Queanbeyan Palerang LGA.

The news comes after 35 COVID cases in Southern NSW yesterday, but despite the recent rise in infections, the number of people in hospital with the virus has dropped to zero.

The 15 Queanbeyan COVID-19 cases are spread out with four in Jerrabomberra, three in Crestwood, two each in Googong, Queanbeyan and Karabar and one each in Bungendore and Greenleigh.

Goulburn Mulwaree recorded a big jump with sixteen new cases, all of them are in Goulburn.

There are five new cases in the Eurobodalla LGA with three in Moruya and one each in Tomakin and Broulee.

Yass Valley recorded two infections, with both in Yass.

Two cases were reported in the Bega Valley LGA, with one in Eden and one in Bega.

Upper Lachlan has one new case in Fulleton.

One case is in Jindabyne in the Snowy Monaro LGA.

This brings the total number of cases in the SNSWLHD to 808 since the start of the outbreak in June.

The SNSWLHD has now separated the way care of active cases is delivered into four ways:

1. Hospitalisation – sick patients are admitted into hospital for treatment.

2. Virtual care – patients who need extra support are cared for in their own homes under the Southern NSW LHD virtual care program. This program provides daily online consultations and monitoring of temperature, blood pressure and oxygen levels. Patients who deteriorate are quickly transferred to hospital for inpatient care.

3. GP care – low risk patients who need some medical supervision.

4. Self managed – people under 65 years of age, who are asymptomatic and fully vaccinated, not pregnant or suffering from any chronic conditions.

Anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 must isolate themselves from other people for 10 days after a positive test result.

Given that most people in the district are now vaccinated, the majority of COVID-19 cases do not need to be cared for under the virtual care program.

The areas within the SNSWLHD that have cases under ‘virtual care’ are Queanbeyan Palerang (7), Goulburn Mulwaree (11), Snowy Monaro (3), Yass Valley (6), Bega Valley (5), Eurobodalla (3) and Upper Lachlan (6).
