Second fatality on ACT roads for 2021

Police are calling for community dash-cam footage after a 47-year-old man died following a single vehicle collision in Hennessy St Belconnen yesterday Monday, 1 February, at around 5pm.

Emergency services were called to the single vehicle collision involving a motorbike.

Members of the public and ACT Ambulance Service paramedics assisted the man before he was transported to hospital.

He was pronounced deceased a short time later.

ACT Policing’s Major Collision Team is investigating the circumstances of the incident and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

It is the second death on ACT roads in 2021, with just over a fortnight between the two accidents.

The first road fatality for 2021 came on 18 January when ACT Policing located the body of 21-year-old motorcyclist Alex Coppinger, near Paddy’s River Road in Tidbinbilla, following an extensive overnight and early morning search of the area.

He was last seen leaving home to ride his motorbike on country roads west of Canberra.

The circumstances of the incident are still being investigated by ACT Policing Major Collision and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Anyone with dash-cam footage or information that could assist police with investigations into either of these incidents is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.  Information can be provided anonymously.
