Revived gothic mansion

Built circa 1879, Deloraine Homestead’s original owner was Mr John Musgrave, the editor of The Braidwood Dispatch and Mining Journal. To say this restored gothic mansion has a rich history is an understatement – it’s one of area’s most magnificent homes and is a piece of the past frozen in time.

Agent Michael Fay calls the home a “labour of love” by the current owners, who have lived in the mansion for 25 years.

“I love the sense of history here. To think, the home was built less than 100 years after the first fleet arrived in Australia. The extensive mature landscaping offering many garden rooms and quiet spots to reflect are a sight to behold,” Mr Fay said.

“From the moment you enter, there’s a strong sense of the grandeur of a past age, with high ceilings, fireplaces in most rooms, and the original hardwood timber floors and staircase. The high quality of the renovations, all still keeping with the period style, allows the new owner to move in and enjoy living here from day one.”

This gothic revival would be a superb wedding venue or unique B&B, with the location on the main tourist route from Canberra to the coast and boasting spectacular views from secluded vantage points.

“Given the multiple living areas, library, grand dining room, sublime bedrooms, and one of the region’s most impressive gardens, this property would lend itself to a business enterprise if desired,” Mr Fay said.

“A number of the original apple and pear trees are still growing in the garden to this day.”
