After six years plying his trade in France, fan favourite Brumbies fullback Jesse Mogg will be returning to where it all began for the next two seasons.

The 32-year-old fullback dazzled crowds at GIO Stadium across his 60 appearances in Brumbies colours from 2012 to 2015 with his fast footwork and raking left hoof.

Brumby number 143, Mogg spent three years at French club Montpellier, winning the European Challenge Cup in 2016 alongside Nic White before moving within the Top 14 League to Pau.

His addition to the squad will bring experience and even more depth to their outside back stocks; he will join current Wallabies squad members Tom Banks, Andy Muirhead and Tom Wright next season.

The Queensland-born former Wests Rugby player was plucked from local first grade by former Brumbies head coach Jake White in 2011 before going on to excel in Super Rugby and represent his country.

Mogg said he was excited to return home and keen to train the house down over pre-season.

“I’ve obviously kept an eye on how the team has been going since I’ve been away and I’ve been impressed with how they’ve continued to grow a strong culture and success on the field and I’m excited to be a part of the Brumbies again,” he said.

“Having a few familiar faces still at the club like Dan (McKellar), Laurie (Fisher) and Whitey (Nic White) of course, will make it easier for me to transition back and I’m just really excited to rip into preseason.”

Brumbies head coach Dan McKellar said he’s excited by the professionalism and experience Mogg offers in the later stages of his career while still maintaining his footballing prowess.

“He made a real impact on the club in his first stint and he returns as an experienced professional player who has played in some very big games, and that’s something we feel will be a valuable addition to our group.

“He’s still very quick, has a huge boot, and we believe he will complement our outside backs over the next couple of years.”
