Raiders forward Ryan James heads to Broncos

Brisbane Broncos football boss Ben Ikin has celebrated the arrival of former Raider Ryan James as a much-needed dose of experience for the rebuilding club.

The forward, who is coming off an injury-disrupted one-season stint with Canberra, had his move to Brisbane confirmed on Thursday.

The 30-year-old’s arrival will offer coach Kevin Walters another steadying influence among fellow recruits Adam Reynolds and Kurt Capewell next season.

“We have made no secret of the fact that we have been looking for an experienced forward to bolster our pack and help our younger forwards grow and improve – Ryan James fits that bill perfectly,” Ikin said.

“Not only is he still playing good football, Ryan is a great leader and models the behaviours we are trying to develop across our playing group.”

Meanwhile Canberra’s pursuit of Gold Coast halfback Jamal Fogarty has hit a snag, with the Titans understood not to be considering a release for their co-captain.

Fogarty had recently re-signed at the Titans until 2023 but was linked to an immediate move to replace George Williams in the No.7 for the Raiders.
