Queanbeyan COVID-19 cases over 200, Southern NSW records 441

Queanbeyan has hit a new daily high with 218 COVID-19 cases as the Southern NSW Local Health District (SNSWLHD) recorded 441 total infections.

It comes after yesterday’s 355 COVID cases in Southern NSW.

The number of people in hospital with the virus has remained at nine with two people in the ICU. 76 people are under active care.

There are now 2,460 active COVID cases in the SNSWLHD with the total number of infections up to 3,256 since the start of the outbreak in June.

The Queanbeyan Palerang LGA recorded 218 new COVID-19 cases.

Snowy Monaro LGA has 126 new COVID infections.

Goulburn Mulwaree LGA recorded 37 new cases.

Eurobodalla LGA has 36 new cases.

Bega Valley LGA has 10 new infections.

Yass Valley LGA reported 8 COVID-19 cases.

Upper Lachlan reported 6 new cases.

The news comes as NSW recorded 45,098 total COVID-19 cases along with nine virus-related deaths.

Meanwhile, a third vaccination shot will soon be mandatory for frontline workers in NSW, as the state reduces elective surgery and bans singing in pubs to curb the Omicron surge.

Teachers, health workers and those in frontline disability roles will be among the groups required to get a booster shot to be considered “fully vaccinated” against COVID-19, Premier Dominic Perrottet said on Friday.

No deadline has been set, with the exact rules being worked out by Health Minister Brad Hazzard, the premier said.

The premier also imposed fresh restrictions – halting singing or dancing in pubs or clubs until 27 January, except for weddings, performers or classes.
