Public Health Amendment Bill submissions close soon

The ACT Legislative Assembly’s Health Committee is calling for submissions for its inquiry into the Public Health Amendment Bill 2021 (No 2) that seeks to mandate COVID-19 vaccinations “subject to certain conditions” and to give the ACT Chief Health Officer “conditional powers”.

Committee Chair, Johnathan Davis MLA, announced the call for submissions in December, which close on 14 January.

The Bill seeks to establish a regulatory framework to manage health risks around COVID-19.

Subject to certain conditions, the Bill will give the ACT Government the power to require people to have a COVID-19 vaccination for:

  • their work;
  • an activity;
  • attending a place; or
  • working in particular places.

The Bill also has conditional powers for the ACT Chief Health Officer to require a person to take a test, to isolate, and provide information.

ACT Chief Minister, Andrew Barr, and the Minister for Health, Rachel Stephen-Smith, introduced the Bill into the Assembly on Thursday 2 December 2021. The Committee must report by Monday 28 February.

Submissions are to be emailed to [email protected]. Anyone with questions about submissions to the Secretary is asked to email them to [email protected] or call 6205 0129.

Submissions are due by Friday 14 January.
