Police call for information on fatal stabbing in Weston

Editor’s note: An update has been issued to this story.

An 18 year-old-man has died, and a 16-year-old male is being treated in hospital, after police responded to reports of a stabbing at the skate park on Dillion Close in Weston at 1am on Sunday morning (27 September).

ACT Ambulance Service paramedics treated the two men at the scene before a crime scene was established.

ACT Acting Superintendent Mark Steel said they are treating the death as suspicious and an investigation into the circumstances of the incident is underway.

“The investigation is in its infancy,” Acting Superintendent Steel said.

“This is a small community so we’re appealing to the public for assistance.

“It’s a secluded area and at the time of the morning… we’re examining CCTV footage from the area and we’d like to call on anyone in the area who might have CCTV to come forward and assist us with our inquiries.”

ACT Policing said the investigation is looking into the relationship between the two males, the involvement of any other persons and the potential murder weapon.

The origin of the call to triple zero for policing and ambulance is unknown.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information that could assist the police investigation is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Please quote reference P2001072. Information can be provided anonymously.
