Penten takes out top award

On Thursday 12 July, the 2018 ACT Telstra Businesses Awards saw Canberra businesses awarded for commitment to innovation and technology.

Cybersecurity firm Penten took out the ACT Business of the Year award and the Medium and Making Waves category.

Penten CEO Matthew Wilson said the Penten team were surprised and excited upon winning, and “humbled by the recognition and excited by the opportunity being named 2018 ACT Business of the Year has created for us”.

Brendon Riley, group executive, Telstra Enterprise said the winners are shining examples of businesses doing great things in new and effective ways for their customers.

“They are genuine innovators, always on the lookout for ways to leverage technology to connect with customers, unlock new markets and take their business to the next level,” he said.

Dr Samantha Crompvoets, director of research consultancy firm Rapid Context, said the Small and Succeeding award further validates the business as “credible, successful and thriving”.

“We want to disrupt traditional approaches to consulting that can be an inch deep and a mile wide, by deeply engaging with complex problems to find real solutions,” Dr Crompvoets said.

“We aim to lead by example when it comes to diversity, inclusion and flexible work. Utilising our passion for evidence-based change, we are rewriting the rules of traditional workplaces to empower our employees to do meaningful work in a way that fits within the broader context of their lives”.

Dr Nina Terrey, global partner of strategic design consultancy firm ThinkPlace, said she was “absolutely blown away” when ThinkPlace was announced as winner in the Social Change Makers category.

“We started the business with the purpose of designing a better world, and 12 years in we are so proud to be realising that vision,” Dr Terrey said.

Mark Thompson, managing director of Sponserve, said the award in the Emerging and Energised category was an “honour”, and would provide Sponserve “with the drive, belief and credentials to take our business to the next level”.

All 2018 ACT winners will join the other state and territory winners at the National 2018 Telstra Business Awards in Melbourne in September.
