Man on bail arrested in Gowrie after police chase

A 29-year-old man on bail will face court today for driving offences and possessing a weapon after allegedly driving under the influence, failing to stop and driving at police.

About midday yesterday, Sunday 14 August, a member of the public notified police of a silver Audi driving on footpaths in Chisholm.

Officers from Tuggeranong station and Road Policing attended.

The Audi was located in Monash where the driver failed to stop for police before driving erratically though several suburbs. A police pursuit was initiated and after police attempted to deploy stop sticks, officers were driven at.

The man drove on the wrong side of Monaro Highway at oncoming traffic before he was arrested in Gowrie. He was transferred to hospital for evaluation.

A search of the vehicle revealed a large amount of suspected stolen property and a conducted energy weapon.

He will face the ACT Magistrates Court for breaching bail, failing to stop for police, two counts of driving at police, dangerous driving, driving under the influence of drugs, driving with false plates, disqualified driving, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of stolen property.
