Man charged following multiple ram raids

A 35-year-old Aranda man has been charged following multiple ram raids, committed in a stolen car, across the ACT over the past week.

Between midnight and 9.30am Sunday, 6 September 2020, a silver Ford Ranger was stolen from a property near Yass, NSW. Police allege the vehicle has subsequently been used in a number of ram raids.

About 1.30am on Sunday, 13 September, the vehicle was spotted by police while on patrol on Torrens Street, Braddon. Police attempted to stop the vehicle, however the driver failed to stop for police and continued on Girrahween Street and northbound on Northbourne Avenue.

The vehicle continued along the Barton Highway, and proceeded into Evatt where road spikes were successfully deployed.

A short time later, the vehicle was located abandoned on Maribyrnong Avenue, near Wakool Circuit, Kaleen. The driver was located and arrested a short time later with the assistance of a police dog.

He is expected to face a bedside hearing in hospital today (Monday, 14 September 2020) charged with drive motor vehicle without consent, drive while disqualified, fail to stop for police, fail to appear after bail undertaking, and first instance warrant.

Further charges are anticipated.
