Man charged following aggravated robbery in Evatt

A 23-year-old man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today, Monday 16 November, following an aggravated robbery at a business in Evatt.

ACT Policing will allege that about 1.15pm on Friday 13 November, the man, armed with a knife, demanded cash from a staff member before he jumped the counter and opened the till, then fled on foot with a sum of cash.

The staff member chased the alleged offender to the front of the store where she sought assistance from two Icon Water employees who were at the shopping centre.

The Icon Water workers chased the man before cornering him on a footpath about 400 metres from the shop, and recovered some of the stolen cash before the man fled.

They returned to the store with the recovered cash.

Following a search warrant early Sunday morning (15 November), the 23-year-old was arrested and taken to the ACT Watch House. He will face the ACT Magistrates Court on charge of aggravated robbery.
