Lock Nick Frost re-signs with Brumbies long term

Promising young lock Nick Frost has committed his future to the Brumbies and Rugby Australia by re-signing until the end of 2025.

The 22-year-old had strong interest from overseas but he has chosen to continue his development in Australia and push for a Test debut with the Wallabies.

A product of the Australian Rugby pathways, Frost was in the 2017 Australian Schoolboys side and was also a member of the 2019 Junior Wallabies that fell just short in the U20 World Championship Final against France in Argentina.

It was in the same tournament that the 206cm second rower went viral after outpacing a number of Ireland’s outside backs to score a remarkable 60-metre solo try.

Known for his athleticism and skill, Frost has continued to develop his set-piece at the Brumbies since joining the Canberra-based franchise in 2019.

He was also a part of the Brumbies 2020 Super Rugby AU triumph, named on the bench in the final against the Queensland Reds, in what was his first professional season.

His strong form has also seen him rewarded at a national level, selected in Dave Rennie’s wider Wallabies squads in both 2021 and 2022.

Frost the third player, alongside Brumbies teammates Ryan and Lachlan Lonergan, to re-sign with Australian Rugby through to the 2025 British and Irish Lions tour.

He is also one of 16 national talents who have re-committed this year to Australian Rugby until at least the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France.

Frost said he’s looking forward to continuing to improve at the Brumbies.

“To know I’ll be here in Australian rugby with the Brumbies for another three years is awesome.”

“My desire has always been to play for the Wallabies and to have success with the Brumbies and I’m grateful it’s worked out that way and now I can fully focus on working towards my goals here at home.

“The Brumbies is a special place and having spent some time around the Wallabies environment last year, I’m keen and focused on getting better every day and I’m stoked to be staying.”

Brumbies head coach Dan McKellar said the re-signing of a talent like Frost is terrific for the club.

“Having Nick stay in Australian rugby and with the Brumbies is fantastic.”

“Nick’s a rare talent with his mobility and height, he has the right mindset around his areas to grow and improve and he’s a popular member of the group.

“Retaining him is significant for the Brumbies and he’ll be an important contributor for many years to come.”

Rugby Australia CEO, Andy Marinos said: “Having Nick re-commit here at home is a real positive for all Australian Rugby supporters.”

“He’s an impressive young man, with a big future ahead and a strong desire to represent his country and pull on the Wallaby gold.

“It’s been very pleasing to see so many of our national talents committing to Australian Rugby and we will continue to work hard to retain our best players ahead of what’s going to be an incredibly exciting period for the game here in Australia.”
