UPDATE: 55-year-old woman dies after serious accident on Kings Highway near Queanbeyan

UPDATE: A 55-year-old woman has died following a two-vehicle crash on the Kings Highway near Queanbeyan.

At about 9.15am, this morning, emergency services responded to the crash at Carwoola between the 55 year-old woman and a 35 year-old woman.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated both drivers at the scene before they were airlifted to Canberra Hospital where the older woman died this afternoon.

The young woman remains in a stable but serious condition.

BEFORE: The Kings Highway is closed in both directions near Queanbeyan after a serious two-car accident that has reportedly left both drivers in a serious condition.

ACT Fire & Rescue crews and Ambulance Service are assisting NSW crews responding to the incident. The community has been asked to avoid the area.

As of 11am, a crime scene has been established with the crash investigation unit attending.

The Monaro Police District released a statement earlier today regarding the specific location of the road closures.

“The Kings Highway remains closed between the roundabout at HQJOC and Captains Flat Road,” the statement read.

“Briars Sharrows Road is closed due to flood water. Do not attempt to drive through flood water. Diversions around the accident are via Sutton Road and Bywong.

“The Kings Highway is expected to be closed into the afternoon. Please check LiveTraffic for updates and diversion routes.”
