Kayaker dies on Murrumbidgee River at Point Hut

ACT Policing will prepare a report for the coroner regarding the death of a man who was kayaking on the Murrumbidgee River at Point Hut yesterday afternoon, Sunday 9 August.

About 2pm yesterday, the man, one of a group of kayakers, became stuck under a bridge in his kayak.

ACT Policing officers, AFP Search and Rescue, AFP Water Police, ACT Fire & Rescue and ACT State Emergency Service personnel commenced a search of the Point Hut area and the Murrumbidgee River downstream.

The man was located about 6.20pm unresponsive in the water, and confirmed as deceased.

Police are urging the public not to enter or play in flood waters or swollen rivers.

If you see someone in danger in floodwaters, call Police Operations on 131 444. If the situation is life-threatening, call Triple Zero immediately.
