Jordan Rapana pleads guilty to drink driving

Canberra Raiders star Jordan Rapana has allegedly pleaded guilty to a low-range drink driving charge in Queensland from last month.

Rapana faced the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday 25 October after he was caught driving over the limit along Bradman Avenue, Maroochydore on 27 September.

The 2021 Mal Meninga Medalist was fined $500 and disqualified for driving for three months.

He blew a reading of 0.098 after admitting to police he had been drinking prior to getting into the car.

Magistrate Matthew McLaughlin said he gave Rapana credit for his early plea and good traffic history. He also acknowledged Rapana would face further punishment from the NRL and his club.

“I see that because you are involved in a professional rugby league team I accept that they will punish you for this,” McLaughlin said.

“You are seen as a representative of the club and the sport in general and they clamp down on anyone that misbehaves in public.”

There was no conviction recorded against Rapana.

Rapana’s solicitor Dave Garratt said his client is expecting a “huge” fine by the NRL as well as a suspension.

It is already the second indiscretion for Canberra this off-season after hooker Tom Starling was arrested and charged for an incident at a Central Coast bar earlier this month.

The Raiders also dealt with two drink-driving charges last off-season with Corey Horsburgh and Corey Harawira-Neara both suspended for separate incidents.
