Jerrabomberra water turned off tonight to repair leak

A major water main in the original part of Jerrabomberra has sprung a significant water leak. The leak will be repaired overnight, Wednesday 15 December, from 10pm to 5am.

Many of the original streets of Jerrabomberra will be impacted, including Jerrabomberra Parkway, Rosewood Glen, Melrose Place, Poplar Crescent, Birch Way, Maple Crescent, Gabriel Avenue, Brudenell Drive, Walker Crescent, and Torpy Place, along with the Jerrabomberra Community Centre and the old shops. Surrounding streets may also be impacted.

Water will be turned off at 10pm. A Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council spokesperson hoped the repairs would be completed by 5am, but more would be known about the extent of the damage when the broken pipe was excavated.

Affected residents are recommended to fill the kettle; ensure they have sufficient drinking water in the fridge or for any medical needs; and consider filling a couple of buckets to flush the toilet throughout the night.

The work site will be in the reserve between Rosewood Glen and Jerrabomberra Parkway. Residents near this site may be impacted by noise, machinery, and lights from the repair site.

If your water appears dirty or cloudy in the morning, run your taps for a few minutes until they become clear.

“This work is unplanned and urgent,” the QPRC spokesperson said. “We are delaying the work until late evening to minimise the impact to residents. We apologise for the inconvenience.”
