Spring weed swap

The spring weed swap is on again on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 November. The swap provides Canberra residents with an opportunity to rid their gardens of invasive weeds and replace them with bush-friendly native alternatives for free.

A range of attractive native plants will be available for swapping, including small trees such as wattles, shrubs including Correa, groundcovers like paper daisies and native tussock grasses. All plants are supplied by local growers and are very hardy in the Canberra region.

This event has been supported by the community for 15 years and is a partnership between the Australian Native Plants Society and the ACT Government.

The weed swap will be happening on 3-4 November 8.30am-4.30pm at two locations: Corkhills Green Waste Recycling Centre, Mugga Lane, Symonston and CSG Green Waste Recycling Centre, Parkwood Road, Belconnen.

Pet food drive

Petbarn Weston and Wellness Natural Pet Food have teamed up to launch ‘Dinners On Us’ for shelter animals in need.

By purchasing a bag Wellness pet food sold instore or online at Petbarn until 30 November, Wellness Natural Pet Food will donate a days’ worth of their Healthy Balance dog or cat food to nominated animal shelters across Australia. Through this donation scheme, Canberra residents will be helping local shelter ACT Rescue & Foster.

Make a purchase of Wellness Natural Pet Food at Petbarn between now and Friday 30 November to contribute to the donation scheme.

Fountain pens flourish

It’s National Fountain Pen Day on Friday 2 November – an ideal time to put fountain pen to paper and try your script skills.

Pilot Pen produced its first fountain pen back in 1918 and now, 100 years later, is still finding fountain pens to be popular with not just calligraphers, but celebrities, business executives, writers, pen enthusiasts and more.

The most expensive fountain pen in the world was a unique one-off edition that retailed at $1.7 million. Pilot Pen sells a wide range of fountain pens, from affordable styles for everyday use through to handcrafted collector’s items.
