Hug your mug: Hot drinks to enjoy

With winter settling in across Canberra, food writer Libby Kimber has sourced some hot drinks that will warm you from the inside out.

Irish cream hot chocolate

Serves 1

  • 2 tsp hot chocolate powder
  • 100ml milk
  • 50ml Cassidy Irish cream liqueur (available at Liquorland, First Choice Liquor and Vintage Cellars)

Combine hot chocolate powder and milk, then heat. Once warm, pour into a mug and add Cassidy Irish cream.

Rainbow lattes

Serves 1

Blue latte

  • 1 tsp butterfly pea flower powder
  • 1 cup almond milk, or other milk of choice
  • Dash of maple syrup (optional)

Pink latte

  • 1/4 cup fresh beetroot juice
  • 3/4 cup almond milk, or other milk of choice
  • Dash of maple syrup (optional)

Green latte

  • 1 tsp matcha tea powder
  • 1 cup almond milk, or other milk of choice
  • Dash of maple syrup (optional)

Yellow latte  

  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup almond milk, or other milk of choice
  • Dash of black pepper to taste
  • Dash of maple syrup (optional)

To make your chosen latte, heat your milk on the stove until it’s just below boiling, and remove from the heat.

Add the latte ingredients, whisk, and then pour into your favourite mug to enjoy.
