The Canberra Southern Cross Club’s newly renovated Woden Central is now open for business. Located in the heart of Woden, the new dining destination provides a wide range of contemporary dining options for all ages. “The centrepiece of the new dining space is our wood-fired pizza oven,” says CSCC Woden general manager Matt Walshe. “Our chefs fire up the oven to around 400oC, which makes the pizza bases light and crispy. With a range of 11 different pizzas on the menu including Boscaiola, Gamberi and Diavola plus vegetarian and the ever popular, but not so traditional, Hawaiian, we’ve made sure there are flavours everyone can enjoy.” The dining offerings at Woden Central are found in four distinct spaces: The Patio, Henry’s family dining, The Café, and The Clubhouse & Bar.

Located at 92-96 Corinna Street, Woden, and open 7 days a week from 9am until late.

Awards for Excellence

The winners of the 2018 ACT Savour Australia Restaurant & Catering (R&CA) HostPlus Awards for Excellence have been announced. R&CA CEO Juliana Payne congratulated the individuals and businesses that were recognised and praised their contribution to the ACT’s hospitality industry. “I’d urge everyone not just to take our word for it but to go out and experience the divine culinary experience on offer throughout the ACT,” said Payne. The major winners were: Caterer of the Year – National Press Club of Australia, Barton; Café of the Year – The Tea Lounge, Hyatt Hotel Canberra, Yarralumla (pictured); and Restaurant of the Year – Les Bistronomes, Braddon.

Cannons IGA opens in Googong

Googong residents are set to enjoy local and fresh produce, gluten-free and health lines, an in-store bakery and ready-made meals as the new IGA opened its doors on 12 September. The new store aims to bring a community feel to the area and delight customers with a range of local, fresh and independent produce. Cannons IGA Googong is also plastic bag-free, instead offering recycled paper bags and will encourage customers to bring their own plastic lidded containers for meat and deli products.

Open seven days: 7am-9pm Mon-Fri, 7.30am-8.30pm Sat-Sun; located at North Village Centre, Googong.

Decadent gelato

Gelatissimo have announced their new Deluxe Range, a collection of decadent gelato flavours combining premium, locally-sourced ingredients and extra-chunky goodness in every bite. Three Deluxe Range flavours were released on 14 September, including Golden Macadamia Blondie, a flavour created exclusively by Gelatissimo’s new brand ambassador, MasterChef 2018 contestant Reece Hignell (pictured). The first three flavours have been released in stores nationally, with three more flavours to be added to the collection over coming months.
