Fatal crash on Monaro Highway near Michelago

One person has died and a woman is in stable condition following a fatal two-vehicle crash this afternoon on the Monaro Highway, just south of the ACT, NSW Police have confirmed.

The woman has been taken to Canberra Hospital and is in a stable condition after suffering minor injuries. The driver of the truck has also been taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Just before 2pm today, Friday 26 November, emergency services were called to the Monaro Highway near Kelly Road, Michelago, after reports of a fatal crash.

Upon arrival, officers from Monaro Police District, found a motor vehicle and a truck had collided.

A male driver in the car died at the scene and a female passenger suffered minor injuries and was taken to a Canberra Hospital in a stable condition.

The driver of the truck was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

All lanes in both directions on the Monaro Highway at Williamsdale have been closed as Emergency Services attend to the scene.

Southbound light vehicles that were already in the area have been diverted onto Old Cooma Road with northbound vehicles being turned around at Michelago, heavy vehicles are being parked.

The road is expected to remain closed for some time, with traffic currently banked up to Calwell.

Police are advising motorists to avoid the area and to delay their trip.
