Duo arrested after stealing BMW, failing to stop and assaulting officer

ACT Policing officers have arrested a 24-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman who they allege stole a BMW, engaged in dangerous driving behaviour, with the woman assaulting a police officer.

Earlier last week, Sunday 24 July, an officer tried to arrest the pair who were in a stolen BMW before being struck by the 22-year-old. The duo then left the scene in the stolen car.

ACT Policing members conducted investigations and yesterday evening, Friday 29 July, witnessed the BMW driving recklessly at high speeds.

When the vehicle arrived at Kippax Fair, officers deployed stop sticks, however the duo fled the scene by mounting a footpath and continued to drive erratically around Canberra, including the oval of Campbell High School.

As the vehicle left the Campbell High School oval and crossed back onto the road, it was obstructed by a mob of kangaroos before the driver lost control of the vehicle.

Police were able to apprehend the duo, who are both scheduled to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today and have been charged with assault and multiple driving offences.

Anyone who witnesses poor driving behaviour is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
