CBR NightCrew back to help the party in the city

Canberrans are ready to dust off their dancing shoes and party the night away in Civic once again, and the CBR NightCrew safe space will be there to lend a helping hand.

From charging stations for your phone, band-aids for blisters, and a spot for you to rest and take a breath, CBR NightCrew are ready to help – judgement free.

Near Platform 5 of the City Bus Station on Mort Street is where you’ll find the friendly St John’s Ambulance officers, ready and waiting to assist with anything you might need.

St John’s Ambulance ACT CEO Adrian Watts is proud of the initiative which provides an important function for the safety of Canberrans hitting the town.

“We see all sorts of things that can range from someone who’s tripped over to the unfortunate affects of violence, which can happen when there’s alcohol in the mix. It concerns me that people do have too much to drink on a night out but I’m really proud and glad to be there as the NightCrew, and to be supported by the ACT Government,” Mr Watts said.

“We encourage people to come to us at any time throughout the night, whether feeling well or not. We have a mix of health professionals and support workers to assist with anything, so we encourage people to drop by the tent at any time, but especially if you’re not feeling well or your friend needs support.”

Mr Watts said the initative takes pressure off the ACT Police and Ambulance services, and it’s important to minimise harm for partygoers on nights out.

“Look after each other is the primary thing people should do on a night out to keep safe. We encourage if you’re out with friends to look after them and make sure you’re not drinking too much yourself, so your friends can enjoy themselves too,” Mr Watts said.

“Going too far sometimes happens, but knowing what your body can take is important. We don’t have to have too much to drink to have a good time.”

CBR NightCrew will be operating between 10pm to 2.30am on Thursday nights, and between 10pm to 4am Friday and Saturday nights, so if you’re passing the tent or need any assistance, pop in and say hi to the friendly staff.
