Canberra Women in Business feature 2021

The 2021 Rubik3 Canberra Women in Business (CWB) Awards were held last Thursday 28 October, acknowledging the tenacity and boldness of female-led businesses during another challenging year of pandemic restrictions and lockdowns.

Branded Graphics here to inspire

Experts in all things design, Branded Graphics is a Canberra-based creative design company with a down to earth and approachable philosophy.

Director and designer of Branded Graphics, Vanessa Schimizzi, has been running the show for over a year now, and said it’s because of her loyal clients and the great Canberra network that her business started flourishing.

“I actually started the business through COVID and it really took off! We were really successful through it, and I think having everything online and being able to work remotely really helped,” Vanessa said.

Her experience as a woman in business has been amazing, and she loves meeting different people and networking, working on projects she didn’t think would ever be possible, and helping people build their business and succeed in any way she can.

“I think it’s not about being the best, it’s just about believing in yourself when others don’t and saying yes to opportunities that sound daunting,” Vanessa said.

“I want to inspire people who are thinking about a new business venture to take a leap of faith because that’s when the magic happens.”

When you contact Branded Graphics, you’ll be dealing with Vanessa directly, and will receive affordable and expert dealings.

National Community Care bridges healthcare gap

National Community Care (NCC) is providing quality care to those within the Canberran community who often find themselves going unheard, unseen and forgotten.

NCC is a niche company sitting between the health sector and the disability sector, bridging the gap for clients stuck between the two, by providing daily care, social supports, community access and complex clinical nursing care within the home.

Most recently they have extended their purpose into Support Coordination.

Co-founder Natashia Telfer is a mother, cancer survivor, and a Canberra Women in Business 2021 Business Woman of the Year.

She has worked within the healthcare sector for almost two decades, in roles including aged care, disability, acquired brain injury, and now director of National Community Care ACT.

Her team’s ability to put client needs first is one of their greatest assets and can be yours too.

The Pop Your Business Conference

Award winning entrepreneur and local Canberran, Bec McFarland, has found the solution to Canberra’s lack of big-name business events – she’s hosting her own!

“I’m so ridiculously excited! I hear a lot from clients and colleagues that nothing ever happens in Canberra and business owners are tired of travelling to Sydney and Melbourne,” Mrs McFarland said.

“With that in mind, I created an amazing annual event in Canberra and I’m looking forward to bringing high profile speakers to the city and sharing them with a local business audience.”

The Pop Your Business Conference is promoting business growth with integrity and intention, and features speakers from all around the country sharing their ideas and advice to support the attendees who are growing their businesses.

Headlining the event is Melbourne brand expert Suzanne Chadwick, along with a long list of talented individuals. The Pop Your Business Conference will be held on 11-12 March 2022.

Simply Lentils boosts gut health

Simply Lentils is vegetarian heaven, with a vast range of pre-mixes made from ground lentils and pulses, bursting with warmth and aromatic spices to boost immunity and gut health.

“Having lived in Australia for over a decade I have rarely seen pulses or lentils on Aussie plates. Not because lentils aren’t grown in Australia, but because the culinary culture here doesn’t view them as a main ingredient,” says director and professional chef, Manjula.

Her latest range, Wholesome & Nutritious plant-based convenience, is NOT anotherfake-meat brand. Manjula knows that vegans value variety, and they don’t want another brand offering fake burgers and sausages.

She encourages flexitarians to give Simply Lentils a try too, for their Meatless Monday dinners. For a limited time only, Canberra Daily readers can use their exclusive coupon code, CW10, to get a 10 per cent discount on their dinners.

Solace Creations enhance your home

Solace Creations Double Glazing has been a proud sponsor of the Canberra Women in Business awards for the past three years, and was a finalist in the Australian Window Association Showroom of the Year for 2021.

“I fully appreciate what women go through when they are starting up and running their own business,” owner Karen Porter said.

Like many other businesses, Solace Creations has felt the weight of pandemic restrictions this year, and Karen was heartbroken to shut her showroom during the lockdown, and to have to stand down some of her staff. Fortunately, everything returned to normal once the construction sector could reopen.

“I just love seeing our clients’ faces admiring how beautiful and comfortable their house is after we’ve installed their windows. We try to make our customer experience the best,” Karen said.

“We get to make people’s homes more comfortable and also do our part for the planet.”

Flazéda reinvests in alternate arts

It was an “exciting honour” for Rachel Reid, founder of Belconnen-based social enterprise alternate performing arts hub, Flazéda, to qualify as a Canberra Business Woman of the Year finalist.

Having started alternate performing arts performance business, Jazida Productions, six years ago, Ms Reid founded Flazéda in January as a dance studio, licensed venue and production house, and has been working tirelessly since to build it.

“I work in the arts industry and I challenge you to find an industry hit harder during COVID,” she said.

The venue hosts classes and workshops by day, ‘dinner and a show’ performances and cabaret shows by night, and can be hired out for parties and functions.

Flazéda proudly reinvests profits back into creating performance and learning opportunities within the alternate arts sector.
