Canberra Relay For Life online registrations extended

Online registrations in Canberra’s Relay for Life community event this Sunday have been extended to welcome more Canberrans to join the hundreds already registered to take to the track.

Teams have been busy fundraising to support the services, programs and research Cancer Council ACT delivers right here in the ACT. Online registrations will now close on Thursday 31 March at 9am.

According to Cancer Council ACT Board president Roger Buckley, Canberrans are excited to return to an in-person event this year, after the past two annual Relay For Life events had to operate virtually due to the pandemic.

Easing back, this year will see Relay teams making their laps over 10 hours, with all the special moments and ceremonies included across the day.

“We are looking forward to joining our Relay teams back on the track on Sunday 3 April,” Mr Buckley said.

“We will celebrate our survivors and carers in the first lap, followed by a morning tea honouring them. We will come together at sunset for the traditional Candlelight ceremony to remember those we have lost, a time to reflect on why we Relay.”

Relay For Life Canberra will be officiated by radio hosts Bronte and Wilko, with entertainment throughout the day – including some special guests to keep the kids amused.

Attendees will be well looked after with a range of sweet and savoury food options available. Care and planning have ensured that Relay For Life will rebuild the sense of community that we have come to know and love, supported by the wider Canberra community.

“Canberra has really come together to support Relay For Life, through corporate teams, community groups, family teams and schools also adapting to hosting Relay Your Way events at their school,” Mr Buckley said.

“There is still time to create or join a team or donate to support those who are taking steps toward a cancer free future.”

Registrations and guests will also be welcome at the gate on Sunday 3 April for those who wish to join in on the day.
