Canberra man wins on last-minute lottery ticket purchase

A Canberra man is the winner of nearly $1 million, after a last-minute decision to buy a Lotto ticket in Saturday’s (17 October) draw.

He was one of seven winners in the division one draw, and said he was thanking his decision to buy the ticket on a whim in what would be a “life-changing” win.

“I couldn’t believe it when I checked my entry online. I almost fell over! It’s crazy to think that I am one of seven winners,” he said.

“I bought this ticket on a whim. I usually only buy tickets into the big jackpot draws, but I thought I’d give Saturday Lotto a go and I am so very glad I did.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Kingston Supabarn Lotto, and paid out a total prize of $928,717.27 to each of the seven winners.

The Canberra man said he would be taking some time to assess his next move, treating himself to some time off work.

“I’m still so blown away. I really need time to think about it. I think I might take some time off work and chill out for a bit then plan what I might do,” he said.

“It’s going to change things in a big way. There’s no doubt about that!”

Of the seven division one winners in the draw, three were from Victoria and one each were from Queensland, the ACT, South Australia and Western Australia.

The news comes just under two weeks after another Canberra man was the only division one winner of an Oz Lotto ticket, taking home $11 million from the win.

The man had purchased that ticket at the Charnwood Newsagency, for the Tuesday 6 October draw.
