Canberra man floored by million-dollar Lotto win

A Canberra man has admitted he spent yesterday screening phone calls from the Lott, assuming it was a telemarketer, not news of a million-dollar Wednesday Lotto win.

The ACT player held the only division one winning entry nationally in Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw 4005, drawn Wednesday 2 September, and takes home a division one prize of $1 million.

In his state of shock, the winning man initially dismissed the million-dollar news, but later revealed he planned to use his prize to retire years earlier than he’d imagined.

Confirming his win with an official from the Lott this afternoon (Friday 4 September), the winner explained he was blown away by the news.

“Is this fair dinkum?” he said. “This is crazy. Wow!

“I’ve been looking at this on my app and thinking this was rubbish.”

When asked how he thought he might enjoy his million-dollar windfall, the loving dad had one particular thing in mind.

“I’ve got children and grandchildren, and they are the first people who came to mind, so I definitely want to be able to help them,” he said.

“This is just fantastic; it means I will be able to retire early.

“I’ll have to do my sums and work out how I can really step back from work and take it easy!

“I know it’s really hard to travel at the moment, but we’d love to go back to Europe one day.

“I can’t wait to tell my partner. She is going to freak out!”
