Book talk: 3 novels from Australian authors

The Housemate by Sarah Bailey

It was the case that shocked Australia. A young woman brutally murdered, her blood-soaked housemate convicted of the crime, while the third housemate goes missing, never to be seen again. Ten years later, the missing housemate shows up dead and reporter Olive Grove returns to a story that is deeply personal to her. However, she is unprepared for the sinister conspiracy that awaits her.

This is an exceptional and powerful novel from an outstanding author. The Housemate contains an incredible and memorable narrative that takes the reader on an intense and thrilling psychological journey. A highly recommended read.

The Councillor by E. J. Beaton

Forced to run a political gauntlet, Lysande must make a wise choice, while also attempting to find her friend’s killer. But with a magical threat rising and her drug habit threatening to consume her, Lysande will risk everything to get justice.

Beaton has produced an awesome and epic debut novel in The Councillor. Expertly blending political intrigue with a great fantasy universe, this is a wonderful and addictive novel that is a lot of fun to read.

Prisoner by S. R. White

Headline, $32.99

Deep in the Australian outback, a man has been found brutally murdered and crucified. Called to the scene, Detective Dana Russo, learns that the victim is a convicted rapist, just released from prison. Under pressure to solve the crime, Dana soon encounters two possible suspects, and must call upon her own traumatic experiences to solve the crime.

Prisoner is a fantastic and compelling murder mystery that has a clever and moving central storyline. Serving as a sequel to White’s debut, Hermit, it features a dark and twisty case that has a unique solution and some intense suspects. An amazing crime novel.
