Barber saves best till last

A dramatic final throw clinched the gold medal for javelin thrower Kelsie-Lee Barber on day five of the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar.

Prior to attending the championships, Barber, who is a dual Commonwealth Games medallist, was regarded as a strong medal prospect having raised her PB on three occasions this year.

Barber, who is a Canberra resident, was in fourth place for most of the competition before posting a 66.56m final throw to top the podium.

Volleyballers claim gold

The University of Canberra women’s volleyball team recently won gold in the UniSport Nationals Division 1 finals on the Gold Coast, Queensland defeating the University of South Australia three sets to two. It’s been a 12-month journey for the side with a win in UniSport Division 2 to qualify for Division 1.
Vikings sit in second

The Canberra Vikings are in second spot on the NRC ladder with one round remaining after a 36-26 win over Sydney at Viking Park on Saturday 5 October. The Vikings host the third place NSW Country Eagles at Viking Park on Friday 11 October 6pm.

Canberra Chill results

The Canberra Chill women’s side has continued their winning ways, defeating NSW Pride 2-1 on Saturday 5 October at the National Hockey Centre, Lyneham. The men’s side lost 7-0 to NSW Pride. The Canberra Chill take on Perth Thundersticks in Perth on Saturday 12 October.
UC Capitals ready to defend title

The UC Capitals kick off their WNBL title defence against Adelaide Lightning on Sunday 13 October 1.30pm at the AIS. Tickets from Ticketek.

Bowling for Oz

Canberra’s Nathan Shoesmith will represent Australia in the 25th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships in Kuwait on 20-30 October.
