Banksia Sustainability Awards recognise ACT Sustainable Household Scheme

At last night’s (31 March) Banksia National Sustainability Awards, the ACT Government’s Sustainable Household Scheme took out the Future Cities award, showing the ACT is leading the way on climate action.

Offering zero interest loans to households who wish to install sustainable products in their homes, the Sustainable Household Scheme has supported over 4,000 applications since it’s launch in September 2021.

Eligible Canberrans can receive a loan ranging from $2,000 to $15,000 to purchase:

  • rooftop solar panels
  • household battery storage systems
  • electric heating and cooling systems
  • hot water heat pumps (HWHP)
  • electric stove tops
  • installation costs for these products.

Additionally, the scheme supports Canberrans looking to purchase a zero-emission vehicle.

Around $30 million loans have been settled in the scheme, and the ACT Government said it was an honour to receive the national recognition.

The scheme is designed to help households reduce their energy bills, while contributing to the ACT’s emission-reduction targets and supporting Canberran businesses and local jobs.

The top eight suppliers in the scheme all have premises in the ACT and have received over $18 million in new business.

The ACT Government said the scheme has the potential to be one of the most successful policies that has been undertaken by the current government.
