Four Canberra Cavalry players – Robbie Perkins, Cam Warner, Steve Kent and Josh Warner – have been selected in Team Australia’s 24-strong baseball squad for the two-game series against KBO champions Doosan Bears in Geelong on 16 and 18 February. Canberra United head coach Heather Garriock will not have her contract renewed

United hunt for new coach

Capital Football has opted not to renew the contract of Canberra United head coach Heather Garriock beyond the 2019/20 Westfield W-League season. Garriock has been the head coach of United for the past three seasons. Canberra United plays their final home game of the season at McKellar Park on Sunday 16 February 4pm against Adelaide United.

Football fraud

A 48-year-old Forde man was scheduled to face the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday 6 February charged with obtaining property by deception. In early 2019, ACT Policing received a complaint from the Gungahlin United Football Club (GUFC) in relation to the alleged theft of funds from the club’s bank account. Over the past 18 months, club officials have assisted police with their investigations. On 5 February, police executed search warrants and arrested the man who was formerly associated with GUFC. The man will face court on 109 counts of obtaining property by deception exceeding $112,000. Police believe the man acted alone. Further charges are expected to be laid.
