At a glance: Rugby League

Rugby League
The Raiders have announced the return of their under 20s side to the NSW Jersey Flegg competition for 2019, with Woden Valley Rams Premiership Coach Ash Barnes to lead the team. Players contracted with the 20s played with Mounties during the 2018 season, after the National Youth Competition concluded at the end of 2017. The Raiders 20s team will be based full-time in Canberra, will return under the Raiders logo and play in the lime green. They will play a few home matches at GIO Stadium and other local venues, with fixtures to be announced.

UC Capitals
Former AFLW premiership coach Bec Goddard will join the UC Capitals in a new coaching role for the 2018–19 WNBL season. Goddard, who piloted the Adelaide Crows to the first AFLW premiership in 2017, will be charged with transforming the club’s match day preparations. She will also assist with player reviews, and attend training sessions and home games alongside head coach Paul Goriss and assistant coaches Phil Brown and Carly Wilson.

Canberra United
National Premier Leagues Women’s Queensland star Meaghan McElligott has signed a W-League contract with Canberra United after impressing during her trial period with the side. The exciting striker has been training with Canberra since the beginning of pre-season. The 23-year-old dominated the NPLW Queensland this year, scoring 31 times in 17 matches for Gold Coast United before moving to the Moreton Bay Jets to score 19 goals in nine outings. “It is just a really exciting opportunity for me, and I think (Canberra United Coach Heather Garriock) approached me after seeing what I had done during this season,” McElligott said.

Australian Baseball League
Canberra Cavalry will start their 2018-19 season by thanking the 988 individuals who supported the initial campaign for the club in 2009. Those individuals and organisations pledged $20 or more to the Let’s Do It, Canberra! campaign, and raised enough money to secure the Cavalry’s home in Canberra. On the night of their season opener, 6 December, the club will invite everyone who contributed to a reunion at the Fort at MIT Ballpark, Narrabundah.
