Ariarne Titmus to feature on Australia Post stamp

Ariarne Titmus is set to become the first Australian gold medallist from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games to feature on an Australia Post postage stamp.

After winning the women’s 400m freestyle event on Monday 26 July, the talented 20-year-old swimmer will soon be seen on the corner of envelopes, travelling across the country.

The postage stamps are part of a campaign celebrating each Australian gold medal performance in Tokyo, with a stamp to be produced within 72 hours of the medal ceremony taking place.

The first is an image of Titmus with her gold medal in Tokyo after her record-winning swim that edged out favourite USA’s Katie Ledecky and China’s Li Bingjie.

The collectable Olympic stamps will be available from Thursday 29 July in participating Post Offices, via mail or phone order while stocks last.

Australia Post executive general manager community and consumer Nicole Sheffield said the gold medallist stamp program was designed to recognise the hard work and success of athletes, while providing an opportunity for Australians to connect with this year’s Olympic Games.

“These Games are unlike any other in history and we’re proud to be able to recognise our Olympians in this way, and help Australians celebrate these remarkable athletes who are representing their country and performing at their peak,” she said.

Australia Post was the first postal organisation in the world to produce instant stamps at the Sydney 2000 Olympics and Australian Gold Medallist Stamps featuring athletes from both Summer and Winter Olympic Games.

The Women’s 4 x 100 metre Relay Team’s stamp will be available online and in participating stores from today (Wednesday 28 July).
