A brand-new, state-of-the-art Advanced Engineering Lab at the University of Canberra is predicted to significantly boost robotics skills training in the ACT and surrounds.
The Lab was unveiled on the ground floor of Building 27 at the University earlier this week, Tuesday 4 October.
Executive Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, Professor Deakin said these new facilities will provide UC students practical, hands-on ways to engage with new
technologies, preparing them for the local and worldwide job markets.
“Globally, there is such a need for people with skills in robotics and IoT [Internet of Things],” said Professor Deakin.
“This lab will provide an invaluable boost to the University’s local pipeline of job-ready graduates for industries in the ACT region.”
In coming years, the lab will be home to students building, experimenting with, and collaborating on robotics and IoT projects.
Professor Deakin said that technologies the students can be expected to learn with in the space include drones, programmable autonomous devices, and robotic arms.
The lab is intended to be flexible for the teaching purposes of the Faculty of Science and Technology, able to be customised for a wide range of classes, activities, and projects.
Equipped with moveable workstations, projection capabilities for livestreamed sessions, and an outdoor deck for ground and air drones, the Advanced Engineering Lab also has a separate dedicated space for research students.
