ACT records eight new COVID-19 cases

The ACT has recorded eight cases of COVID-19 ahead of the further easing of restrictions in the national capital.

There are 10 people in hospital including seven in intensive care and five on ventilators.

So far, 91.4 per cent of Canberrans aged over 12 have been fully vaccinated.

There have now been 1,625 total cases during the current outbreak with 258 still active.

1,212 negative test results were recorded in the past 24 hours.

The ACT plans to ease a number of restrictions on October 29 and November 1.

Mandates on face masks outdoors are due to be scrapped tomorrow, with household gathering limits doubling from five to 10.

Density limits at cafes, restaurants and pubs will increase, while cinemas, museums, zoos and entertainment venues will be allowed to reopen.

Quarantine rules will change from November 1, in line with the resumption of open travel between NSW and Victoria.

Casual contacts of COVID cases will no longer need to undergo quarantine if they are fully vaccinated, but will still need to isolate until they receive a negative test result.

For close contacts, quarantine times have been halved from 14 to seven days, with a negative test needed on day six.
