ACT records 661 new COVID-19 cases, ANU cluster up to 400

The ACT has recorded 661 new cases of COVID-19 in the latest update as a cluster grows at the Australian National University (ANU).

Three people are in intensive care but none require ventilation.

Wednesday’s spike stemmed from a cluster of infections at residential halls at the ANU, with about 400 students testing positive.

77.9 per cent of five to 11-year-olds have now had at least one vaccine dose, while more than 66.2 per cent of the ACT’s population over the age of 16 have had three doses.

The ACT has now recorded 47,247 COVID-19 cases during the pandemic and 33 virus-related deaths.

The ACT’s indoor mask mandate is due to lift from 6pm on Friday but will remain in place for public transport along with high-risk settings such as hospitals, aged care facilities or prisons.

Masks will also be required for disability care workers and in-home aged care providers, as well as staff and visitors to schools and early childhood centres.
