ACT records 40 new cases, 16 in hospital

The ACT has recorded 40 new cases overnight with 21 linked to existing cases or ongoing clusters and the remaining 19 still under investigation.

Of the ACT’s 40 new cases, nine spent their entire infectious period in quarantine, while at least 10 spent some time in the community while infectious.

Sixteen people are now in hospital with or due to COVID-19, with six in intensive care and five requiring ventilation.

Two patients are fully vaccinated, 11 are unvaccinated, and three have had one dose.

The number of cases associated with this outbreak now stands at 1,147 with 711 recovered, or 62 per cent.

430 active cases remain.

Almost 97 per cent of Canberrans 12 and over have now received at least on dose of a COVID-19 vaccine with 68 per cent fully vaccinated.

Health minister Rachel Stephen-Smith said second doses are now outpacing first doses with around 1000 more second doses being administered in ACT Government-led vaccination clinics yesterday.

More than 4,800 tests were conducted yesterday, the highest daily figure clocked since August.

83 compliance checks were conducted yesterday while 583 traffic stops took place leading to six people being asked to leave the ACT; no infringements and one caution were issued.
