ACT records 38 new COVID-19 cases

The ACT has recorded 38 new COVID-19 cases overnight, with 24 linked to existing cases or ongoing clusters and the remaining 14 under investigation.

Of the 38 new COVID-19 cases, just 14 were in quarantine their entire infectious period with at least 16 spending some time in the community while infectious.

14 people are currently hospitalised with or due to COVID-19; five are in ICU with three requiring ventilation.

Nine patients are unvaccinated, four have had one dose and the status of one is unknown.

The youngest patient is in their 20s, the oldest in their 80s.

There are currently 342 active cases in the ACT with 632 recovered cases.

Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith was encouraged by the reduction, but said it was still above the daily number seen for the majority of days during this outbreak.

She says examples from interstate show that larger gatherings can result in cases and impact a number of households.

“This should serve as a reminder that the health directions are in place for a reason and by breaking them you can endanger yourself, your family and your friends,” she told reporters in Canberra on Sunday.

“So please don’t use this public holiday weekend or the NRL grand final as an excuse to gather together in larger groups.”

The ACT has a public holiday on Monday for Labour Day.
