ACT records 16 new COVID-19 cases, five in hospital

The ACT has recorded 16 new COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours to 8pm last night, with five people now in hospital with the virus.

Two of the patients are now in the ICU with one requiring ventilation.

Despite the 16 new coronavirus cases, the active cases in the ACT has dropped by two to 177.

There have now been 1,918 total cases since the start of the outbreak in Canberra.

2,280 negative tests were returned in the past 24 hours.

The ACT reached the 97 per cent mark of fully vaccinated individuals aged 12 and over on Friday, with the next update to come on Monday.

Meanwhile, NSW recorded 176 new coronavirus cases and two deaths, while Victoria had 1,275 new infections and four COVID-related deaths.
